2 Common Molds in Homes + How We Get Rid of Them

Maintaining a mold free home means being able to recognize the usual suspects trying to take up unwanted space.

As a professional cleaning service, we encounter these common molds quite frequently and use natural remedies including Branch Basics, or baking soda + vinegar to help eliminate existing growth.

Below is an outline of common molds found in homes, plus tips to get rid of each kind:

1. Black Mold

Commonly found in your refrigerator due to steady moisture and rotting food. It can be avoided by frequently wiping out the shelves and doors and using undiluted vinegar when necessary. The well kept team can take care of this for you as a part of the refrigerator add on!

It can also be found around the bottom and behind  your toilet bowl. This is also due to steady moisture and lack of airflow in the bathroom. Another common reason is an unsealed toilet base which allows moisture to creep underneath. To avoid this happening be sure to shower with the fan on during and even afterward for at least 20 minutes.

Black mold can cause congestion, sneezing, and coughing  if exposed for long periods of time so it’s best to stay on top of it!

2. Pink Mold

We always call this pink mold, but it’s not acually a mold. You might notice it around your hygiene products, shower curtain and any household drains/faucets. It is still a bacteria that forms a slimy residue. The bacteria forms due to the fluctuating temperatures that occur in the bathroom, and also the minerals from your soap/products!

Overexposure of the pink bacteria is commonly linked to urinary tract infections- yikes! The easiest way to avoid this is to squeegee your shower walls after each use. Use microbial shower curtain liners and bath mats and if needed you can make an easy paste with baking soda and dish soap. Just scrub in between the tiles and other problematic areas and  rinse.
